2004 Man Booker Prize Shortlist
The shortlist
for this year's Man Booker Prize was announced on Tuesday September 21st
at the Man Group's London office. The chair of the judges, MP Chris
Smith, said:
"This
is an exceptionally strong shortlist. All of these books would
stand contention with the Booker winners over the years. This
list contains a number of well-established authors as well as two writers
for whom this is only their second novel.
"If
there is one essential characteristic of all these books, it's the quality
of their writing, their use of words and deployment of imagery.
In a strong field these novels have stood out as being truly remarkable."
Here are the
six novels that were fortunate enough to make the cut.
The TurboBookSnob
predicted 3 out of 6 books on this year's shortlist - The
Line of Beauty, Cloud
Atlas, and
The
Master. She is looking forward to reading the other three books;
unfortunately, her order from the UK was delayed this year so she was
unable to read and review all of the books on the longlist before making
her predictions.
