TurboBookSnob Predicts...

Cloud Atlas
by David Mitchell

There were several wonderful books on the shortlist this year, but in the final analysis, Cloud Atlas deserves the 2004 Man Booker Prize.  David Mitchell's brilliantly inventive plot and masterly command of multiple narrative voices must not be ignored.

In deciding this year's Booker Prize winner, the TurboBookSnob began an experiment that was prompted by The Wisdom of Crowds by James Surowiecki.  A group of her friends read a series of defined passages from each of the shortlisted books and provided a rating score.  The TurboBookSnob would like to thank them for their participation.  More information about this experiment to come!

Runner Up: The Electric Michelangelo

The TurboBookSnob's runner up this year is The Electric Michelanglo by Sarah Hall, an author of great talent who should be watched in the years to come.  While her prolific descriptive similes may seem burdensome to the reader at first, with further reading, the reader will indulge Hall anything if only to experience and cherish the

electrically-charged, uniquely compelling quality of her writing.
